What is Catapult?

Catapult is an innovative annual conference that empowers law students and young lawyers to take control of their legal careers and think creatively about the future.

Let’s face it, it’s not your father’s job market. Times are tough, and the legal profession is in transition. To what? No one knows exactly.

It seems to us that you’ve got two choices:

  • Complain and refuse to take action.
  • Deal with it!

What’s it going to be? The choice is yours.

Can I Come?

Are you a law student, a lawyer, or someone who works with either of these groups? Then Catapult is for you!

We know it’s kind of strange to have law students and actual lawyers in the same room, but that turned out to be one of the best parts of Catapult 1.0 because — shockingly enough — both groups had a lot to learn from the other.

For the law students, it was cool to meet practicing lawyers who’d been around the block a bit and had experience in the current job market. For the lawyers, it was nice to get some fresh energy and insight into aspects of technology, social media, and so on that are commonplace in law school today but didn’t exist a few years ago.

Mix in some very experienced older attorneys willing to share their insights, and you’ve got a recipe for the sort of multidimensional learning that can’t occur in more segregated groups.

Who’s Behind This?

Catapult is the brainchild of Alison Monahan and Lee Burgess, the co-founders of Law School Toolbox and Bar Exam Toolbox. Alison is also the founder of The Girl’s Guide to Law School.

Lee and Alison are passionate about shifting the dialogue around legal careers from a place of gloom-and-doom and negativity to something realistic, but hopeful. We firmly believe there are opportunities for enterprising young lawyers, but — as we often tell our students — you’ve gotta hustle.

Our goal with Catapult is to bring a broadly diverse set of voices together to address the realities of a 21st Century legal career in an friendly, action-oriented setting. From personal branding and social media to handling a winding career path or starting your own practice, you’ll hear from leaders in the field and get their insights into your unique situation.

Everyone is there to help!

When and Where is the Event?

Catapult 2.0 will be held on March 1st, 2014 in San Francisco at SPUR (654 Mission).

You’ll find all the details in our travel planning section.

How Much are Tickets?

There are three tiers of Catapult tickets, all of which include the full day of programming, snacks, a delicious lunch (seriously, the world-famous Crème Brûlée cart will be there!), and an evening reception with drinks, food, and great raffle prizes.

Pricing is as follows:

  • Tickets 1-50: $125 (Sold out)
  • Tickets 51-100: $150
  • Tickets 101-capacity: $200

We expect to sell out, since there were over 100 people in attendance last year. Don’t delay and be disappointed!

And, as you can see, the price goes up substantially if you have to purchase in later tiers.
